Yes. Regular maintenance washing is not just recommended by manufacturers — in certain areas, it is required to maintain the warranty. These “unwashed” zones, such as cladding sheltered under eaves, do not benefit from natural rainfall. Dust and dirt can accumulate, trap moisture, and potentially initiate corrosion if left untreated.
To protect your warranty, washing should be carried out at least every six months, or every three months in coastal environments.
While often described as “maintenance free,” most cladding systems are in fact low maintenance — not no maintenance.
Manufacturer guidance for painted metal cladding recommends periodic washing to remove atmospheric pollutants and surface deposits that can gradually affect the protective coating.
Regular cleaning supports both the long-term performance of the material and the overall presentation of the building.
For most metropolitan commercial buildings we recommend an annual or bi‑annual (6 monthly) pure water clean. High‑profile or exposed sites may benefit from quarterly programs. We will propose a frequency based on what is of highest value to you.
Where "unwashed" areas are present, these should be washed at a minimum 6 monthly.
While pure water is highly effective, it cannot clean every surface equally.
As a general rule, the smoother the surface, the better the results. This makes pure water particularly well-suited to painted metal cladding, glass, signage, and other smooth finishes.
It can also be effective on painted timber and painted brick or render, with higher-sheen surfaces typically delivering the best outcomes.
Yes. On rendered surfaces it is almost always better to clean these with a chemical soft wash to achieve the best clean. Pure Water actively attracts and lifts dirt from surfaces, but can't penetrate and draw out staining on render like a chemical treatment. We can advise when a chemical soft wash is your best method of cleaning.
